The fourth meeting of the U.S.-U.K. Strategic Energy Dialogue (SED) took place today, with U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Deputy Secretary David M. Turk and UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) Parliamentary Under Secretary of State Andrew Bowie at the helm. This ongoing dialogue, established in 2021, aims to enhance cooperation on energy security, clean energy, and net-zero objectives between the two nations.

During the meeting, both parties highlighted the collaborative efforts between the DOE and DESNZ on various energy topics such as offshore wind and civil nuclear energy. The chairs emphasized the importance of clean energy technologies and the joint commitment to energy storage in the power sector to strengthen energy security and combat climate change.

In line with their dedication to environmental sustainability, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2050 and accelerating the phase-out of coal power generation in favor of clean, carbon-free electricity by 2035. Additionally, they acknowledged the significance of addressing short-lived methane emissions through policy and regulatory interventions.

The joint statement also underlined the importance of multilateral cooperation in driving progress on energy security, particularly in response to global energy market challenges. The chairs reiterated their support for European partners and allies in reducing reliance on Russian energy following recent geopolitical events.

The U.S.-UK Strategic Energy Dialogue continues to serve as a pivotal platform for advancing shared energy goals and fostering collaboration in clean energy technologies.
