HUD Announces Disaster Assistance for Oklahoma Survivors

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has announced disaster assistance for Oklahoma survivors following severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes, and flooding that began on April 25, 2024. President Biden issued a major disaster declaration for the counties of Hughes, Love, and Murray.

HUD's efforts include providing a 90-day moratorium on foreclosures of mortgages insured by the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) and offering mortgage insurance through programs like Section 203(h) for disaster victims. Homeowners affected by the disaster are encouraged to reach out to their mortgage servicers for assistance.

According to HUD, information on housing providers and programs will be shared with FEMA and the State to connect survivors with available housing options. Additionally, HUD is offering flexibility to Community Planning and Development Grantees, Public Housing Agencies, and Tribes to apply for waivers and flexibilities in response to the natural disaster.

HUD-approved housing counseling agencies are also prepared to assist survivors in determining their needs and available resources. Furthermore, HUD's Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity is available to help individuals who believe they have experienced housing discrimination following the disaster.

For those seeking assistance or more information, HUD provides various contact options including calling the FHA Resource Center at 1-800-304-9320 and finding a HUD-approved housing counseling agency online or by calling (800) 569-4287. Additionally, individuals can file a fair housing complaint with HUD by calling 1-800-669-9777 or visiting HUD's website.
