Today, The Heritage Foundation unveiled a new initiative entitled “Chinese Handcuffs: China’s Immobilizing Trap on U.S. Energy, Security, and Prosperity.” The project aims to shed light on the Chinese Communist Party's strategic control over "green energy" sources and the implications of the American Left's collaboration with the CCP in the fight against climate change.
Victoria Coates, Vice President of the Kathryn and Shelby Cullom Davis Institute for national security and foreign policy at The Heritage Foundation, emphasized the importance of understanding Communist China's actions, stating, "The American people deserve to know how Communist China is sabotaging our energy security, which is one of our great strategic advantages."
Part One of the project, titled “Chinese Handcuffs: How China Exploits America's Climate Agenda,” delves into China's exploitation of the progressive environmental agenda. Co-authored by Erin Walsh and Andrew J. Harding, the report investigates how China capitalizes on the environmental narrative to its advantage.
Coates expressed her satisfaction with the initiative, highlighting its multi-faceted approach, saying, "I am pleased to announce this new Heritage initiative that dives deeper into this underreported issue from historical, national security, and policy lenses."
Key findings from Part One of the project include the revelation that the U.S. environmental agenda, intensified under the Biden administration, could lead to increased dependency on China, potentially ensnaring the U.S. in a trap orchestrated by China. The report also uncovers China's long-term agenda to dominate green technologies at the expense of American interests.
Erin Walsh and Andrew J. Harding emphasized the critical need to address China's detrimental role in the climate change agenda. They highlighted the national security and economic implications of the U.S. reliance on China for green energies, urging a conservative approach towards China to safeguard American interests.
