The Brent Spence Bridge project, connecting Cincinnati, Ohio, and Covington, Kentucky, has achieved a significant milestone. The U.S. Department of Transportation announced that the project's sponsors have successfully completed the comprehensive environmental review. This development paves the way for groundbreaking activities in the upcoming months.
The Biden-Harris Administration has committed $1.6 billion from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to this critical project. The Brent Spence Bridge is a significant transportation corridor, facilitating over $1 billion in freight movement daily. The project aims to upgrade the existing bridge and construct an additional one dedicated to interstate drivers. This will significantly improve traffic along this crucial freight route extending from Canada to Florida.
U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg acknowledged President Biden's leadership in making long-awaited infrastructure improvements a reality across America. He said, "This bridge carries over $1 billion in freight and over 160,000 drivers every day, and today we are proud to mark the completion of the environmental review for the new Brent Spence Bridge, enabling the project to move to construction in the coming months."
Federal Highway Administrator Shailen Bhatt emphasized that this advancement aligns with President Biden's commitment to revamping our nation's infrastructure. He added that this investment would benefit surrounding communities and others across the country for decades.
President Biden's five-year, $1.2 trillion infrastructure law aims at launching projects to rebuild roads and bridges, enhance ports and airports, create a national EV charging network with 500,000 chargers by 2030 among other initiatives.
Through his Investing in America agenda, President Biden envisions an "Infrastructure Decade" aimed at unlocking economic opportunities while creating jobs and fostering domestic manufacturing growth.
