Global tech trade association ITI has expressed concerns over the Office of the United States Trade Representative's review and expansion of Section 301 tariffs. Jason Oxman, President and CEO of ITI, released a statement criticizing the Biden Administration's approach.
Oxman stated, "Today’s announcement from the Biden Administration disregards significant stakeholder input and fails to address the top concerns raised by affected industries, including tech. The business community has repeatedly documented how Section 301 tariffs disproportionately harm U.S. businesses, manufacturers, workers, and consumers, and have failed to motivate China’s leaders to change their unfair trade practices."
He further noted that the expansion and significant increase of Section 301 tariffs will continue to strain Americans' wallets and exacerbate the effects of global inflation by raising the price of goods. This move is also expected to harm U.S. global leadership.
"Before finalizing these proposed tariff increases," Oxman added, "the administration must provide stakeholders a meaningful opportunity to comment and reopen a comprehensive, fair, and transparent exclusion process for all products covered by the Section 301 tariffs.”
