WASHINGTON – The Department of Labor today announced a significant expansion of MigrantWorker.gov and its Spanish version, TrabajadorMigrante.gov. These websites provide useful information to help protect the rights of all American workers, regardless of their immigration status.
With this expansion, the website now offers content in eight languages with the addition of Arabic, Simplified Chinese, Haitian Creole, Portuguese, Tagalog, and Vietnamese added to its English and Spanish offerings. This provides a broader range of workers access to important information about federal regulations that protect their rights to a safe workplace free from discrimination or harassment; the right to organize a union; and the right to question their employer's wage or labor practices. The site also provides instructions on how workers can file a complaint if they feel their rights have been violated.
TrabajadorMigrante.gov has also added new Spanish-language videos about common challenges faced by migrants, including safe transportation to workplaces, illegal hiring fees, and nursing employees' right to have adequate space and time for breast milk extraction. These videos join an existing library of videos about wage theft, heat exposure, and unsafe working conditions—all easily accessible on mobile and desktop devices.
The website also provides information about the department's Consular Partnership Program, which includes a growing list of partnerships between the department and embassies and consulates from the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Mexico. Workers will find details on how to locate and communicate with US consulates in their home countries as well as answers to their concerns regarding their rights.
