Federal Trade Commission Chair Lina M. Khan announced that an open meeting of the Commission will be held virtually on Thursday, May 23, 2024. The meeting will commence at 1 pm ET and will begin with time for members of the public to address the Commission.
The tentative agenda includes several key presentations:
- **Final Rule on Government and Business Impersonation:** Staff from the Bureau of Consumer Protection’s Division of Marketing Practices will present on the new rule aimed at combating scammers who impersonate businesses or government agencies. This rule provides the FTC with enhanced tools to file federal court cases against such scammers and seek civil penalties.
- **Roll-Up RFI:** Staff from the Bureau of Competition will discuss a Request for Information (RFI) seeking public comment on corporate consolidation through serial acquisitions and roll-up strategies. The RFI focuses on acquisitions across various sectors that do not require antitrust review and their impacts on competition, consumers, workers, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
- **Voice Cloning Challenge Winners:** Representatives from the Division of Marketing Practices and the Office of Technology will present on winners of the Voice Cloning Challenge, highlighting ideas to protect consumers from AI-enabled voice cloning harms such as fraud and misuse of biometric data.
Chair Khan will offer brief remarks at the start of the meeting before inviting public feedback on the Commission’s work. Members of the public must sign up to address the Commission virtually by Tuesday, May 21, 2023 at 8 pm ET. Each commenter will have two minutes to speak. Those unable to participate during the event may submit written comments or prerecorded videos through a webform.
