On May 28, 2024, Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken issued a statement on behalf of the United States, extending well wishes to the people of Azerbaijan on their Independence Day.
"We value our relationship with Azerbaijan, having built a partnership over the last 32 years on mutual interests relating to security and energy cooperation," Blinken stated. He emphasized the opportunity to deepen engagement in these areas and address critical global issues such as climate change and the green energy transition.
Blinken highlighted that "the United States welcomes Azerbaijan hosting COP29 in Baku" and expressed eagerness to collaborate closely with the Azerbaijani government to ensure the conference's success. This collaboration aims to foster a more sustainable and resilient climate future.
The Secretary of State also underscored that U.S.-Azerbaijan cooperation aligns with a commitment to democratic development and respect for human rights consistent with Azerbaijan’s constitution. He acknowledged progress towards peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, stating, "The United States welcomes the work that has been made toward a durable and dignified peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan."
Blinken reiterated U.S. readiness to support efforts for lasting peace, enhancing regional connectivity, and delivering economic benefits. He reaffirmed U.S. support for "Azerbaijan’s independence, territorial integrity, and sovereignty" on this significant holiday.
