The United States has congratulated the Haitian Transitional Presidential Council on its nomination of an interim prime minister. In a press statement, Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller emphasized the importance of collaboration and stakeholder engagement for the benefit of the Haitian people, who continue to face severe gang violence.
"We urge the council and incoming Prime Minister Garry Conille to work collaboratively, and to engage all stakeholders in support of the Haitian people, who continue to suffer the brutality of horrific gang violence," Miller stated.
The United States has called upon the interim Prime Minister and the Transitional Presidential Council to act promptly in forming a credible, accountable, and inclusive government as well as a Provisional Electoral Council. These steps are seen as essential for enabling free and fair elections and ensuring security and basic services for all Haitians.
"The United States looks forward to working together with Haiti to accomplish these goals, particularly through the deployment of the Multinational Security Support mission," added Miller.
The press statement underscores ongoing U.S. support for Haiti during this transitional period.
