U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo met with Prime Minister of Singapore Lawrence Wong today. During the meeting, Secretary Raimondo congratulated Prime Minister Wong on his recent inauguration as Singapore's fourth prime minister.
Secretary Raimondo expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Wong and the Government of Singapore for hosting the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF) Ministerial meeting and the inaugural Clean Economy Investor Forum on June 5 and 6. Both leaders acknowledged the significant accomplishments achieved so far and emphasized the IPEF partners' commitment to ensuring the long-term success of this economic engagement framework.
The meeting also highlighted the U.S.-Singapore Free Trade Agreement, which entered into force 20 years ago as the United States' first free trade agreement in Asia. This agreement is seen as a testament to the strong and enduring bilateral economic relationship between both countries.
Furthermore, Secretary Raimondo and Prime Minister Wong celebrated advancements in supply chain resilience, clean energy, and the digital economy under the U.S.-Singapore Partnership for Growth and Innovation.
