President nominates two Marine Corps generals for higher positions

Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III announced today that the president has made the following nominations:

Marine Corps Maj. Gen. Melvin G. Carter has been nominated for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general, with an assignment as deputy commandant for Information at Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps, Washington, D.C. Carter is currently serving as the deputy director of Cybersecurity for Combat Support at the National Security Agency, Fort Meade, Maryland.

Marine Corps Maj. Gen. Benjamin T. Watson has been nominated for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general, with an assignment as commanding general of Training and Education Command in Quantico, Virginia. Watson is currently serving as the commanding general of the 1st Marine Division in San Diego, California.
