Today, the global tech trade association ITI, the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), and the Federal IPv6 Task Force convened leading experts from the U.S. government and tech industry for a day-long summit focused on government IT modernization. The event covered how AI, cybersecurity, advanced computing, the next generation of internet, and other emerging technologies can be leveraged to improve government efficiency, bolster innovation, enhance government services, and foster public-private collaboration.

“Government modernization is a top priority for the tech sector, and we are eager to collaborate with U.S. policymakers on ways industry can assist in reaching that important goal. From AI to IPv6 to quantum computing, government adoption of emerging technologies will be important for ensuring the U.S. keeps pace with innovation and can support this evolving digital landscape,” said ITI Executive Vice President of Policy Gordon Bitko. “Today’s summit provided an opportunity for public and private stakeholders to map out continued joint efforts to tackle shared challenges and highlight the innovative technologies contributing to IT modernization success stories, use cases, and best practices. We’re grateful to GSA and the Federal IPv6 Task Force for their partnership.”

“At GSA, I have witnessed modern technologies such as PKI, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and enhanced cybersecurity measures transform federal operations and create a more efficient, secure, and responsive government to better serve American citizens,” said GSA Director of Information Technology Modernization Tom Santucci. “The IT Modernization Summit is instrumental in bringing together federal and industry partners to collaborate, share insights, and drive innovation in our technology initiatives.”

Speakers at the 2024 IT Modernization Summit included ITI members AMD, Cisco, Equinix, and Zscaler. Current and former federal agency senior leaders from organizations including the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB), and the U.S. Department of Energy also participated in the summit. Expertise was also provided by subject matter experts from U.S. national labs as well as academics from Johns Hopkins University.
