The U.S. Department of State has awarded 10 small grants to alumni of the OneBeat international music exchange as part of its Global Music Diplomacy Initiative. This initiative aims to use music as a tool to promote peace and democracy.
OneBeat is a multinational music exchange program that brings together musicians from around the world to foster creative collaboration, civic discourse, and cross-cultural understanding. Participants collaborate on new music and develop strategies to address shared challenges, positively impacting local communities in the United States and globally.
The OneBeat Accelerator program supports the growing artist network by awarding micro-grants to alumni for creative solutions to community challenges. These grants range from $2,500 to $5,000 and are awarded annually through an application process open to program alumni. The 2024 recipients hail from Colombia, Ghana, Hungary, Indonesia, Pakistan, Senegal, South Africa, and the United States.
Since its inception in 2018, the OneBeat Accelerator program has provided over 50 grants. These grants support projects promoting democratic principles and addressing issues such as access to education, community resilience, conflict transformation, cultural heritage preservation, diversity and inclusion, economic empowerment, environmental protection, media literacy, and youth engagement.
