The Consumer Technology Association® (CTA), the owner and producer of CES®, unveiled the results of a new artificial intelligence (AI) study at the CTA CEO Summit in Stockholm. The study, focusing on Swedish consumer sentiment, examines how this rapidly evolving technology will impact their lives. According to the CES Tech Trends: Swedish Consumer Sentiment on AI survey, 52% of Swedes currently use at least one AI tool at work, with nearly a third using ChatGPT for professional purposes. Younger generations show even greater anticipation for future AI usage, with 77% of Gen Z Swedes expecting to use generative AI professionally within the next five years, compared to 62% of the overall population.
“The survey makes it clear that Swedes are excited about AI now, as well as its future potential,” said Gary Shapiro, CEO of CTA. “At CTA, we’re working with partners in industry and government to propel this transformative technology forward, ensure it delivers on its promise to improve lives around the globe, and solves some of the world’s biggest challenges.”
The research indicates that Swedish consumers expect AI to have the most positive impact in technology (48%), customer services (36%), and education (35%). Despite high excitement levels, there are concerns about Gen AI's impact on healthcare, media, and financial sectors. Consequently, 72% of Swedish consumers advocate for clear labeling on AI-generated content.
“AI was a dominant trend at CES 2024, and we expect this to continue at CES 2025,” said Kinsey Fabrizio, President of CTA. “While many conversations focus on AI’s applications for tomorrow, research like this shows the technology is already increasing productivity and enhancing learning experiences.”
The survey launch coincides with the annual Consumer Technology Association CEO Summit held in Stockholm from June 23 – 27. The summit features founders and chief executives from top companies globally. Among them were Swedish business leaders like Lars Stenqvist, Chief Technology Officer at Volvo Group who participated in a fireside chat on revolutionizing sustainable transportation's future. Asa Tamsons from Ericsson presented on unleashing 5G technologies for enhanced connectivity.
Swedish business leaders joined a panel titled “Innovation Nation: Sweden’s Winning Approach,” which included Andreas Grape from Nordic Angels; Caroline Walerud from Airforestry and Volumental; and Giovanni Fili from Exeger. Attendees also toured Exeger’s Stockholm facility.
Methodology:
CES Tech Trends: Swedish Consumer Sentiment on AI was conducted online among 450 Swedish adults aged 18-plus from June 7 to June 14, 2024. This research focuses on current awareness and use of AI expectations for future use regulation and Gen-AI's impact on daily lives. The margin of sampling error at a 95% confidence level is +/-4.6%, with larger errors for subgroups.
