Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken met with UN Senior Humanitarian and Reconstruction Coordinator for Gaza Sigrid Kaag in Washington, DC, on June 28, 2024. The meeting focused on the necessity to increase and sustain humanitarian aid to Gaza and address security challenges that have hindered the delivery of assistance.
Spokesperson Matthew Miller stated, "The Secretary underscored that it is critical to ensure the effective protection of humanitarian workers." Additionally, Secretary Blinken emphasized the importance of reaching a ceasefire deal that would secure the release of hostages and alleviate civilian suffering in Gaza. He expressed continued confidence in Coordinator Kaag and affirmed strong support from the United States for her mandate.
