Antony J. Blinken, Secretary of State, issued a press statement on July 1, 2024, extending congratulations to the people of the Republic of Burundi on their 62nd anniversary of independence.
"The United States remains committed to working with the Burundians to strengthen our bilateral relationship, foster economic growth and opportunity, improve food security, and promote positive health outcomes," Blinken stated.
He further emphasized the importance of supporting human rights and democratic institutions in Burundi as the country approaches its Parliamentary elections in 2025.
"We look forward to working with Burundi to support the protection of and respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, and democratic institutions," he added.
The message underscores ongoing U.S. efforts to collaborate with Burundi on various fronts including economic development and health initiatives.
