The Green Grid Releases New Online Tool to Right-Size Data Center Cooling Units
WASHINGTON – The Green Grid (TGG) has introduced a new online tool designed to assist data center designers, operators, and users in selecting the appropriate coolant distribution unit (CDU) for servers in their facilities. The CDU Sizing Tool calculates essential parameters such as fluid temperature, total flow rate, and total pressure drop across cold plates in a cooling loop. This preliminary guide aims to enhance understanding and communication between data center buyers and sellers, thereby reducing the learning curve and bridging the knowledge gap in selecting the correct CDU size for a server.
An affiliate of the global tech association Information Technology Industry Council (ITI), TGG operates worldwide to develop tools, provide technical expertise, and advocate for optimizing energy and resource efficiency within data center ecosystems to support a low carbon economy.
"As the world’s demand for data centers continues to grow rapidly, it’s imperative their owners and operators make them as energy efficient as possible. This new online tool will provide critical information to help key decision makers select the best CDU size for servers in their data center, reducing the risk of installing excess capacity and thereby keeping energy use as efficient as possible," said ITI Vice President of Environment, Sustainability, and Regulatory Policy Chris Cleet.
The CDU Sizing Tool offers stakeholders vital information to advance energy efficiency in data centers. It helps prospective buyers gain insights into CDU sizing requirements for making informed financial and technical decisions. For end users, it estimates the appropriate CDU for their installations and provides recommendations to suppliers, ensuring adequate support for server architecture. For OEMs and integrators, it allows accurate sizing and selection of a CDU tailored to specific server designs.
