Special Envoy Hammer travels to Djibouti and Ethiopia

U.S. Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa (SEHOA) Ambassador Mike Hammer is set to travel to Djibouti and Ethiopia, according to a media note from the Office of the Spokesperson dated July 5, 2024.

In Djibouti, Ambassador Hammer will engage in consultations on regional and security issues with the Djiboutian government and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development.

In Ethiopia, SEHOA Hammer will participate in the African Union’s second meeting to review the implementation of the Pretoria Cessation of Hostilities Agreement (COHA) concerning northern Ethiopia. The United States remains committed to supporting both the Ethiopian government and the Tigray Interim Regional Administration in achieving lasting peace. This includes efforts towards an effective disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration program for ex-combatants; facilitating an orderly and peaceful return of internally displaced persons; and advancing transitional justice and accountability measures.

Additionally, Special Envoy Hammer will discuss with Ethiopian officials their initiatives aimed at ending violence in the Amhara and Oromia regions.
