The U.S. Department of Labor has announced an $800,000 award to the Montana Department of Labor and Industry. This funding is intended for employment and training services for individuals in Montana affected by the closure of Pyramid Lumber and Roseburg Forest Products lumber mills in Missoula County.

Administered by the department’s Employment and Training Administration, this award represents the first increment of a National Dislocated Worker Grant that could total up to $1,988,070. The grant aims to provide retraining and skills development for dislocated workers primarily in Missoula County, as well as in Flathead, Lake, Lincoln, Mineral, Powell, and Sanders counties. Additionally, it will support workers on the Flathead and Blackfeet American Indian reservations.

These grants are supported by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014. They offer state or local boards funding for direct services and assistance in areas experiencing significant economic dislocation events that result in workforce needs surpassing available resources.
