The U.S. Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Division, in collaboration with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), will host a series of online webinars in August to coincide with Breastfeeding Awareness Month. These webinars aim to educate expectant and new mothers about their workplace rights.
The series will commence on Thursday, August 1, with an initial review of federal maternal health laws. Subsequent webinars will take place every Tuesday and Thursday throughout the month, focusing on resources and local laws specific to eight Southeast states. Each session will feature panelists who provide expertise, support, and assistance to parents and nursing mothers. The panelists will include representatives from state Women, Infant, and Children (WIC) offices, milk banks, support groups, lactation consultants, among others.
Webinars are scheduled from 11 a.m. to approximately 12 noon EDT or 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. CDT. The detailed schedule is as follows:
- August 6: North Carolina
- August 8: Alabama
- August 13: South Carolina
- August 15: Florida
- August 20: Georgia
- August 22: Tennessee
- August 27: Kentucky
- August 29: Mississippi
"Removing the obstacles that may prevent women from balancing their career demands and their children’s needs and having equal access to workforce success is fundamental to the U.S. Department of Labor’s mission," said Wage and Hour Division Regional Administrator Juan Coria in Atlanta. "Our department, working with our partners, is committed to empowering the nation’s working women. We encourage anyone interested in learning more about how the law protects expectant and new mothers to join us for these thoughtful and educational discussions."
