Assistant Secretary for Political-Military Affairs Jessica Lewis will be stepping down from her position this month after nearly three years of service.

During her tenure, Lewis has overseen significant changes in how the Department provides security assistance. Under her leadership, the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs provided $51.4 billion in U.S. security assistance to Ukraine, increased aid to Israel following the October 7 attacks, and supplied Taiwan with military equipment worth billions of dollars to enhance its self-defense capabilities. Additionally, she launched the first Taiwan Foreign Military Financing program.

Lewis also streamlined defense trade with AUKUS partners and facilitated a record number of security cooperation agreements with critical partners and allies. Her efforts in transitioning countries away from Russian defense articles have contributed to the modernization of militaries on NATO’s Eastern Flank and other regions globally.

"Through decades of work in the executive branch and on Capitol Hill, Jessica has demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to public service," said a spokesperson. "Her efforts have made our country safer and more secure. I’m grateful to have had her on my team and I wish her well as she returns to private life."
