Agents with the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Laredo Sector conducted a train check on July 12, discovering 20 migrants locked in a train compartment. This rescue was highlighted in a July 12 news release from the CBP.
According to the news release, after the train car was unlocked and the 20 migrants were discovered, they received medical assistance and were in good health, despite temperatures exceeding 100 degrees that morning. The migrants, originating from Mexico and Guatemala, were processed based on their individual immigration status.
The Laredo Sector encompasses 136 Southwest border miles along the Rio Grande, extending from the border between the US and Mexico to Oklahoma and Arkansas. According to the CBP webpage focused on the Laredo Sector, its headquarters moved to its current location in 1970 and was remodeled in 1997. The station includes various facilities such as a detention cell, covered parking, an automotive repair facility, a car wash, truck storage, and a lunchroom area.
