Apple has announced a new initiative to train all Apple Developer Academy students and mentors on artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and tools. Alumni of the academy will also have access to this training. The curriculum will be provided to thousands of students and alumni across 18 Developer Academies in six countries, aiming to enhance opportunities for developers, designers, and entrepreneurs in the iOS app economy.
The AI-focused curriculum joins the academy’s existing programs in coding, professional skills, design, and marketing. This addition aims to help students acquire skills that contribute to their local businesses and communities. The coursework also incorporates Apple's values, encouraging inclusive design and positive global impact.
“At Apple, we see coding as a universal language and believe in empowering developers, creators, and entrepreneurs across the world with tools and technologies that will allow them to create phenomenal experiences,” said Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations. “With the introduction of curriculum dedicated to AI and other new technologies, we’re excited to see what students will build to share with their communities and the world.”
Starting this fall, every Apple Developer Academy student will engage with a custom-built curriculum teaching them how to build, train, and deploy machine learning models on Apple devices. Courses will cover AI fundamentals; Core ML for performance on Apple devices; and building AI models from scratch. Students will benefit from project-based assignments guided by hundreds of mentors and over 12,000 academy alumni worldwide.
New technologies and APIs announced at WWDC24 will provide students additional tools for building exceptional projects. This includes Xcode 16 for enhanced developer productivity, Swift Assist for exploring new frameworks, and Swift 6 aimed at improving code clarity and concurrent programming.
Apple supports every stage of the student journey—from exploring app development fundamentals in its global Foundations program to advancing skills at Developer Academies or elevating apps further.
