The global tech trade association ITI has responded to the King’s Speech at the State Opening of Parliament, which outlined a UK legislative agenda focused on economic growth through technology and innovation.
“We’re pleased to see the UK Government recognize the important and prominent role technology plays in boosting UK economic growth,” said ITI Director of Policy Rob McGruer. “We call on the Government to swiftly advance work on a UK AI Bill. ITI believes a forward-looking, risk-based framework focused on the most powerful AI models can set the global standard for pro-innovation, pro-safety AI governance and allow innovation to thrive. ITI’s recently released AI Accountability Framework is an important input to this work, setting out global tech sector consensus practices companies are using to develop and deploy AI technology safely and securely and build trust with consumers. We look forward to working with the UK government on a bold tech agenda.”
ITI’s new analysis outlines how the new UK leadership can leverage its position to advance innovation through AI and data policy; pragmatic, joined-up regulation; and a long-term economic strategy that balances trade, technology, and security.
