The United States officially opened its embassy in Port Vila today. This opening marks the growth of the relationship with Vanuatu and underlines the strength of the commitment to bilateral relations, to the Ni-Vanuatu people, and to partnerships in the Indo-Pacific region.
The embassy's opening builds upon efforts to provide more diplomatic presence throughout the region and to engage further with Pacific neighbors. The United States looks forward to partnering with the Ni-Vanuatu government on issues such as addressing climate change, growing the economy, ensuring maritime security, and continuing to build people-to-people ties, as the Peace Corps has done since 1990.
The United States established diplomatic relations with the Government of Vanuatu in 1986. Ann Marie Yastishock is accredited to Vanuatu as the nonresident Ambassador and leads the diplomatic mission based in Port Vila.
