Assistant Secretary Satterfield to lead US delegation at UNESCO sports conference

Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs Lee Satterfield will travel to Paris, France from July 22 to August 2. During her visit, she will serve as the Head of Delegation at UNESCO’s Sports Ministerial 'Change the Game' Conference and participate in public diplomacy engagements aimed at promoting sports as a diplomatic platform to foster unity and peace.

Satterfield, who leads the United States’ international sport policy and engagement efforts as the State Department’s Coordinator for International Athletics, will head the U.S. delegation at UNESCO’s conference from July 23-24. She is scheduled to deliver remarks and engage with sports ministers from various countries on topics such as hosting international sporting events, gender equity, and inclusion.

Additionally, Satterfield's itinerary includes several public diplomacy activities. These engagements involve collaboration with the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) and sports diplomacy initiatives with the U.S. Embassy in Paris. Her visit will conclude on August 1 with an on-the-record discussion titled "The Power of Sports Diplomacy," hosted by Axios and Deep Blue’s TN50 at USA House.
