Acting Secretary Todman discusses critical agency investments at UnidosUS Conference

Last week, HUD Acting Secretary Adrianne Todman delivered remarks and participated in a fireside chat at the UnidosUS Conference. The discussion focused on critical investments in housing by the Biden-Harris administration and the importance of addressing homeownership within the Latino community.

"The Biden-Harris Administration has tackled this nation’s housing crisis head-on," said Todman. "By expanding housing supply and creating affordable housing options, we can ensure that more families, especially those in the Latino community, have an opportunity to achieve the dream of homeownership."

Todman highlighted that over half a million Latino families have been able to buy and refinance their homes in recent years. Since 2021, HUD has supported nearly 3 million first-time homebuyers. Of these first-time homebuyers, the percentage of FHA mortgages insuring Latino borrowers doubled compared to the market average.

"Our country is committed to implementing policies that support these goals," Todman added. "A diverse and inclusive housing market benefits everyone."

HUD Assistant Secretary for Administration Elizabeth de León Bhargava and Ginnie Mae Acting President Sam Valverde also attended the conference. Valverde is noted as the first Latino leader of Ginnie Mae. They met with stakeholders from across the country to discuss innovative approaches to affordable housing.

Bhargava emphasized how the Biden-Harris Administration provided $85 million in funding for communities to identify and remove barriers to affordable housing production and preservation, aiming to lower housing costs.

Todman addressed the UnidosUS audience during her speech at the conference.
