Meta has announced the rollout of AI Studio in the United States, providing a platform for users to create, share, and discover artificial intelligence characters. Built on Llama 3.1, AI Studio enables creators to develop AI extensions of themselves to engage with fans.
Users can design AI characters based on their interests at ai.meta.com/ai-studio or through the Instagram app. The platform offers various prompt templates or allows users to start from scratch, creating AIs that can perform tasks such as teaching cooking, assisting with Instagram captions, generating memes, and more. These AIs can be kept private or shared publicly across Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, and web platforms.
To begin creating an AI character, users can visit ai.meta.com/ai-studio or initiate a new message on Instagram and select “Create an AI chat.” Customization options include naming the AI character and defining its personality, tone, avatar, and tagline. Meta provides a step-by-step guide with expert tips to assist users in bringing their AI characters to life.

- "What Lens Bro": Developed by photographer Angel Barclay to provide advice on selecting camera lenses.

- "Sammy The Stress Ball": Created by meme creator Assistants vs. Agents to help users manage work stress.
AI Studio also aims to help Instagram creators extend their reach by setting up AIs that can answer common direct messages (DMs) and story replies quickly. Creator AIs can share personal facts or link followers to favorite brands and past videos. Customization options allow creators to tailor their AIs based on content preferences and topics while managing auto-replies through Instagram’s professional dashboard.
Notable creators like Chris Ashley, Violet Benson, Don Allen, and Kane Kallaway have already developed their own AIs. Fans can interact with these AIs via the ✨icon on the creators' Instagram profiles.
