The U.S. Department of State has announced the selection of Sister Cities International to recruit, train, and deploy young Americans as Youth Ambassadors at the USA Pavilion for Expo 2025 Osaka. International Expos, also known as World’s Fairs, offer opportunities to showcase American values, enterprise, culture, and global leadership while promoting collaboration with international partners on shared global challenges.
Sister Cities International was established during President Eisenhower’s 1956 White House summit on citizen diplomacy. The organization aims to foster bonds between people from different communities globally, promoting peace and prosperity through person-to-person “citizen diplomacy.” As a membership association, it provides essential services, programs, and resources to strengthen sister city networks.
The United States is partnering with Sister Cities International to identify young Americans who will represent the country at Expo 2025 Osaka. Language skills (Japanese and other languages), curiosity, and customer service skills are important considerations in the selection process. Youth Ambassadors serve as the “faces” of America and have historically been a highlight for Expo visitors. Applicants can visit www.sistercities.org starting August 7, 2024, for more information.
The USA Pavilion theme “Imagine What We Can Create Together” encourages visitors to visualize themselves in the United States by supporting advances in sustainability, space exploration, education, and entrepreneurship. Visitors will explore studying at American schools through virtual tours of various parts of the United States while appreciating the country’s natural beauty and sustainability efforts. They will also join America's journey back to the moon and beyond. Expo 2025 Osaka will open on April 13, 2025, expecting over 28 million visits during its six-month duration.
