The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced today that it has ordered Chagrin Valley Soap & Salve, located in Solon, Ohio, to cease the sale, use, or removal of eight unregistered pesticide products. The EPA cited violations of the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act.

The affected products include “Don’t Bug Me! Natural Bug Spray,” “Don’t Bug Me! Bug-Off Stick,” “Don’t Bug Me! Bug Repellent Lotion Bar,” “Camping and Trail Soap,” “Don’t Bug Me! Insect Repellent Candle,” “Hand Spray: Lavender Rosemary,” “Hand Spray: Fresh Mint” and “Don’t Bug Me! Bug Repellent Bundle.” These items were available for purchase online. Labels and promotional materials for the "Don't Bug Me!" line claimed insect repellent properties, while hand sprays were marketed as effective against viruses and germs on surfaces.

Federal regulations mandate that all pesticides undergo an EPA registration process to confirm their efficacy and safety before they can be distributed or sold. According to the agency, a product will not receive registration unless it is determined to pose no unreasonable risk to human health or the environment when used as directed. Registered products carry EPA-approved labels with essential safety and application information. Unregistered products have not been evaluated by the EPA and may not perform as advertised or could potentially mislead consumers.
