The Burma military regime’s extension of the state of emergency remains at odds with the aspirations of the people of Burma, who continue to strongly oppose military rule. "We call on the regime to engage with all stakeholders to pursue a path toward a peaceful, representative, and democratic future for Burma," stated an official.

The regime has been urged to end its violence against the people of Burma, release those unjustly detained, and allow unhindered humanitarian access. The military’s actions have prolonged the crisis, internally displacing over three million people and forcing thousands more to seek protection in neighboring countries. Millions have been plunged into poverty as a result.

"The United States and our partners and allies will continue to support the aspirations of the people of Burma to realize an inclusive, democratic government," affirmed another source.
