The Department of State’s Bureau of Global Public Affairs has formed a public-private partnership with Meridian International Center to support global media business models in vulnerable international markets. The initiative, named the Global Business of Media partnership, aims to provide resources for exchange and training programs targeting high-potential media professionals. These efforts are designed to equip journalists with the tools and networks necessary to maintain journalism's independence and integrity.

Acting Assistant Secretary for Global Public Affairs Kristin M. Kane and CEO of Meridian International Center Ambassador Stuart Holliday signed a Memorandum of Understanding to formalize the partnership. Acting Assistant Secretary Kane remarked that this collaboration builds on over 20 years of journalism and media exchange programs developed by the Department of State in conjunction with Meridian.

The Department of State’s Office of Global Partnerships facilitated this initiative, emphasizing how public and private sector cooperation can achieve common objectives, such as enhancing the sustainability of independent news outlets.

Meridian International Center is a nonpartisan, nonprofit diplomacy center focused on advancing diplomacy and leadership for a better shared future. Since its establishment in 1960, Meridian’s Center for Global Leadership has engaged with journalists and media professionals through various programs aimed at promoting a free and fair press. These initiatives include reporting tours, media co-ops, training tours, and residencies for foreign journalists in the United States to interact with their peers and explore the U.S. media landscape.
