Palantir Technologies Inc. (NYSE: PLTR) and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT) announced today a significant advancement in their partnership to deliver sophisticated and secure cloud, AI, and analytics capabilities to the U.S. Defense and Intelligence Community. This collaboration introduces an integrated suite of technology enabling critical national security missions to operationalize Microsoft's large language models (LLMs) via Azure OpenAI Service within Palantir’s AI Platforms (AIP) in Microsoft's government and classified cloud environments.

Palantir and Microsoft have a history of operating in secure environments to provide leading technology for crucial U.S. Defense and Intelligence missions. Through this partnership, Palantir will deploy its products – Foundry, Gotham, Apollo, and AIP – in Microsoft Azure Government as well as the Azure Government Secret (DoD Impact Level 6) and Top Secret clouds. Additionally, Palantir will be an early adopter of Azure's OpenAI Service in Microsoft's Secret and Top Secret environments. This integrated solution combines Microsoft's Azure cloud compute with powerful language models like GPT-4 with Palantir’s data integration capabilities from Foundry and use case building capabilities from AIP. It aims to enable operators to build AI-driven operational workloads across various Defense and Intelligence verticals such as logistics, contracting, prioritization, action planning, among others. The availability of these services is subject to authorization by appropriate government agencies.

“Bringing Palantir and Microsoft capabilities to our national security apparatus is a step change in how we can support the defense and intelligence communities,” said Shyam Sankar, Chief Technology Officer at Palantir. “Palantir AIP has pioneered the approach to operationalizing AI value – beyond chat — across the enterprise. It’s our mission to deliver this software advantage and we’re thrilled to be the first industry partner to deploy Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service in classified environments.”

“This expanded partnership between Microsoft and Palantir will help accelerate the safe, secure, and responsible deployment of advanced AI capabilities for the U.S. government,” said Deb Cupp, President of Microsoft Americas. “Palantir, a leader in delivering actionable insights to government, will now leverage the power of Microsoft’s government and classified clouds along with robust Azure OpenAI models to further develop AI innovations for national security missions.”

Furthermore, the Palantir Federal Cloud Service—which includes platforms such as Gotham, Foundry, AIP, Apollo, and FedStart Mission Manager—is authorized for deployment on Microsoft Azure for IL5 environments.

Both companies are committed to incorporating responsible privacy standards and ethical AI practices into their technologies. These commitments reflect shared values regarding product engineering approaches aimed at addressing complex challenges faced by public sector institutions when implementing new technologies.

As part of this partnership initiative, Palantir and Microsoft will offer bootcamp experiences for the Defense and Intelligence Community to trial their technology.
