Netflix announced the launch of the Netflix Fund for Creative Equity in Mexico today. This fund is part of a global initiative started in 2021. With its introduction in the country, Netflix aims to promote Mexican-made content and develop future Mexican audiovisual talents.

In collaboration with organizations and institutions that work towards a more diverse film and television industry, Netflix will support programs that identify, train, and provide opportunities for talent that has not yet found its place in the sector.

Alejandra Serna, VP of Production for Netflix Latin America, stated: “The world has fallen in love with Mexico through its characters and stories, and Mexican creators have found in film and television a way to share their visions. For more than a decade, we have collaborated closely with them and today, as we celebrate Mexican Cinema Month, I am excited to announce the launch of the Netflix Fund for Creative Equity. At Netflix, we believe in the importance of finding creators from all corners of the country and with diverse profiles to tell stories that reflect the richness and variety of Mexico.”

In its initial stage, the fund will support several programs:

New Frontiers of Audiovisual Production in Mexico: Designed by the Mexican Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences (AMACC) and Netflix, with collaboration from Pimienta Films—who will implement it—this program is Mexico's first executive production training course focused on diversity. The syllabus includes modules on current trends, artistic vision, production and financing models, legal issues, and innovation. National and international experts will be invited to share their experiences with 30 participants.

Program with the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica (CCC): In collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and the Mexican Institute of Cinematography (IMCINE), Netflix and CCC will develop training courses and master classes at CCC's new campus in Chapultepec. The goal is to better prepare participants for employment in the audiovisual industry. Additionally, this fall CCC will launch a national call focused on diversity and inclusion for 30 people from diverse communities around Mexico to receive training as production assistants.

2nd Film Project Development Lab for Indigenous and Afro-descendant Filmmakers from Latin America: Strengthening its partnership with the Morelia Film Festival by co-sponsoring this program as part of Morelia Pro activities from October 16 to 20, 2024. The goal is to support indigenous and Afro-descendant filmmakers' project development by providing tools for production, budget preparation consulting, advice on copyright issues, recommendations for promotion, distribution, exhibition among others.

The mission of the Netflix Fund for Creative Equity is to help build new paths for diverse communities within entertainment because each audiovisual production reflects those who participate in them.

These three projects join other efforts by Netflix to help reach its audiovisual potential while promoting visibility for Mexico.
