The U.S. Department of Justice has filed a lawsuit against RealPage, a technology company accused of colluding with landlords to unjustifiably raise rental prices. Emily Gee, senior vice president for Inclusive Growth at the Center for American Progress, responded to the lawsuit with a statement.
"The cost of rental housing has been squeezing families across America for far too long, and illegal price-fixing schemes are part of the problem," Gee stated. "No company should be able to get rich by stifling competition to make families pay more than fair to put a roof over their head, but that’s exactly what RealPage is alleged to have done."
Gee highlighted the extent of the issue, noting that RealPage controls approximately 80 percent of the market for such software. She commended the Biden-Harris administration's efforts in addressing rental costs.
