US delegation discusses alliance with Korean officials

SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA — Following their trip to Japan, Chairman John Moolenaar (R-MI) of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party, alongside Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA), Rep. Ben Cline (R-VA), Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-NY), Rep. Brian Babin (R-TX), and Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA) traveled to the Republic of Korea to express their strong support for the American-Korean alliance and the economic prosperity and security South Korea brings to the Indo-Pacific and to the world.

The delegation met with President Yoon to discuss the importance of the US-Korea alliance in the face of authoritarian pressure from China and North Korea.

Trade Minister Cheong In-Kyo discussed with the delegation about trade between South Korea and the US, South Korea’s historic investment in the United States, and how both countries can work together to strengthen outbound investment restrictions to China and critical emerging technology supply chains.

Chairman Moolenaar and members also visited Korean legislators at the National Assembly. They joined Speaker Woo Won-Shik and Representatives Kim Young-bae, Kim Gunn, and Kim Min-ki among other legislators, discussing important economic and security relationships between both countries.

The delegation had dinner with members of the Korean International Trade Association (KITA) to learn more about South Korea's thriving economy.

Members visited the Joint Security Area at the Demilitarized Zone between North and South Korea to understand more about troop activities in that region.
