State Department releases new volume on US foreign economic policies during Reagan era

ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

The Department of State has released a new volume of the "Foreign Relations of the United States, 1981–1988, Volume XXXVIII, International Economic Development; International Debt; Foreign Assistance." This volume is part of a subseries documenting the foreign policy decision-making during President Ronald Reagan's administration.

The focus of this volume is on U.S. foreign economic policies from 1981 to 1988 towards regions identified by the administration as "the developing world." It includes information on the formulation of U.S. foreign economic assistance and development policies, interactions with these regions in the United Nations and at international meetings, responses to international debt problems, international commodity policy, and policies toward international financial institutions.

This volume adopts a global and thematic approach. Consequently, specific country or region-related economic policy issues are generally not documented here but are covered in regional and country-specific volumes within the subseries. The compilation and editing were done by Laura Kolar.
