Oracle and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have announced the launch of Oracle Database@AWS, a new offering enabling customers to access Oracle Autonomous Database on dedicated infrastructure and Oracle Exadata Database Service within AWS. This initiative aims to provide a unified experience between Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and AWS, simplifying database administration, billing, and customer support. Additionally, it allows seamless connectivity between enterprise data in Oracle Database and applications running on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), AWS Analytics services, or AWS’s advanced AI and ML services.

Larry Ellison, Oracle Chairman and CTO, stated: “We are seeing huge demand from customers that want to use multiple clouds. To meet this demand and give customers the choice and flexibility they want, Amazon and Oracle are seamlessly connecting AWS services with the very latest Oracle Database technology.”

Matt Garman, CEO at AWS, added: “This new, deeper partnership will provide Oracle Database services within AWS to allow customers to take advantage of the flexibility, reliability, and scalability of the world’s most widely adopted cloud alongside enterprise software they rely on.”

Oracle Database@AWS offers several benefits for customers:

- Zero-ETL integration between Oracle Database services and AWS Analytics services.

- Flexible options for migrating databases to the cloud using tools like Oracle Zero Downtime Migration.

- Simplified procurement via AWS Marketplace.

- Unified support experience from both companies.

- Seamless integration with Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) for backups and disaster recovery.

The service can be launched using familiar tools such as the AWS Management Console or Command Line Interface (CLI). It leverages AWS’s multi-Availability Zone architecture for higher availability levels. The preview will be available later this year with broader availability in 2025.

Industry leaders have expressed their support for this collaboration. Brian Tilzer from Best Buy remarked: "This announcement makes it easier for us to move some of our database workloads to AWS." Joe Frazier from Fidelity Investments highlighted how it supports their mission by providing optionality necessary for deploying critical workloads to the cloud. Andrew Zitney from State Street noted that moving workloads to AWS would unlock new innovation opportunities. Scott Petty from Vodafone emphasized that this partnership would help deliver secure, resilient services faster.
