Fans overwhelmingly RSVP’d for the wedding event of the season as "The Perfect Couple" claimed the top spot on the English TV List with 20.3 million views. Director Susanne Bier's sharp, twisty whodunnit limited series, based on Elin Hilderbrand’s New York Times best-selling novel, stars Nicole Kidman, Liev Schreiber, Meghann Fahy, Eve Hewson, Dakota Fanning, Ishaan Khatter, Billy Howle, and Jack Reynor. The opening credits flash mob to Meghan Trainor’s “Criminals” has also captivated viewers.
"Rebel Ridge," a high-velocity thriller from acclaimed writer-director Jeremy Saulnier, debuted atop the English Films List with 31.2 million views. The film is certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes at 94% and has been described as the “action movie of the year.” It stars Aaron Pierre as an ex-Marine who navigates through small-town corruption when an attempt to post bail for his cousin escalates into a violent standoff with the local police chief.
Lee Daniels’ horror thriller "The Deliverance," starring Glenn Close, moved up to #2 on the English Films List with 21.8 million views. Charlie Cowell’s dark comedy series "KAOS," featuring Jeff Goldblum as the insecure King of the Gods, ranked #3 on the English TV List with 5.9 million views. Meanwhile, the fourth and final season of "The Umbrella Academy" followed at #10.
Comedies kept fans entertained this week. Returning to the English Films List were action comedy "The Union" at #3 (8.3 million views) and raunchy teen comedy "Incoming" at #5 (6 million views). Romantic comedies also had a strong presence; Season 4 Part 1 of "Emily in Paris" charmed at #4 (3.8 million views) on the English TV List ahead of Part 2's release on Sept. 12. Additionally, films like "Aloha" captured hearts at #8 (4.3 million views), and "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" serenaded fans at #10 (2.8 million views).
Documentary series making return appearances included "Worst Ex Ever" at #2 (7.2 million views) and "American Murder: Laci Peterson" at #8 (2 million views) on the English TV List and "Caught in the Web: The Murders Behind Zona Divas" (#5) on the Non-English TV List from Mexico. Season 8 of "Selling Sunset" opened at #6 (3 million views), showcasing new looks and fierce clashes along with stunning homes. Season 2 of survival competition series "Outlast" debuted at #7 (2.2 million views).
Heartfelt drama "(Un)lucky Sisters" from Argentina moved up to claim the top spot on the Non-English Films List with 4.2 million views. Other returning titles included shark thriller "Under Paris" from France in eighth place, drama "Untamed Royals" from Mexico in ninth place, and comedy adventure "Mission: Cross" from Korea in tenth place.
Dramas dominated four spots on the Non-English TV List including soapy drama “Breathless” from Spain which climbed to #1 with 6.4 million views; emotional thriller “The Accident” from Mexico at #2 (5.9M); romantic dramas “Romance in the House” from Korea at #8 (1.3M); and “Chastity High” from Japan at #9 (1M).
