Secretary Blinken praises civil society's role in strengthening Ukraine's democracy

Secretary Antony J. Blinken addressed civil society representatives in Kyiv, Ukraine, on September 11, 2024. The meeting took place at O’Panas and was part of his official visit to the country.

In his remarks, Blinken expressed appreciation for the work being done by civil society organizations in Ukraine. "So good to see some of you again and see all of you. Thank you, and I just really wanted to get a chance to stop by and say how much we value – and I know the Ukrainian people value – the work that you’re doing," he said.

He emphasized the importance of civil society in both the United States and Ukraine, particularly in strengthening democracy. "Civil society is essential to both of our countries, and particularly in all of what you’re doing to strengthen even more Ukraine’s democracy and make sure that this is a society that’s working for all of the Ukrainian people," Blinken stated.

Blinken concluded by expressing gratitude for their efforts and reiterated U.S. support. "So thank you for all of the efforts that you’re making and thank you for all of the work that we’re able to do together. And we’re happy to support your efforts."
