U.S. Rep. Blake Moore (R-Utah) announced that, along with Representatives Brad Wenstrup, August Pfluger, and Mark Green, he has released a Request for Information (RFI). The RFI aims to gather input on improving and fortifying domestic medical supply chains.

According to a press release by Moore, this RFI is part of a larger congressional initiative aimed at bolstering U.S. health security. It seeks input from experts, industry leaders, and coalition groups to identify ways to overcome challenges related to onshoring medical supply chains, diversify sources, and maintain U.S. production independence from foreign adversaries. With a focus on economic barriers, regulatory impacts, and the need for diversification, the RFI also explores strategies for enhancing domestic manufacturing and creating effective public-private partnerships for long-term sustainability and competitiveness.

The RFI builds on previous congressional actions, including the recent vote on the BIOSECURE Act. This act addresses concerns about foreign control over American patient data and biotechnology. According to Moore's press release, it seeks responses on various issues such as economic challenges, regulatory barriers, and potential policy incentives for domestic production. Insights on specific medical products and services that need greater domestic focus are also requested. Additionally, ideas for public-private partnerships and long-term strategies to maintain competitive and secure medical supply chains are sought. All responses are requested by October 4, 2024.

Moore represents Utah's 1st congressional district. He currently serves as the first Utah Republican on the House Ways and Means Committee with positions on the Healthcare, Social Security, and Work and Welfare subcommittees as well as the House Budget Committee. He advocates for policies to address the national debt, supports Utah’s defense community, and represents Hill Air Force Base as co-chair of the Armed Forces and Depot caucuses. Elected Vice Chair of the House Republican Conference in November 2023, Moore is the first Utahn to hold a House or Senate leadership position.
