Arlington, Va. – Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) President and CEO Eric Fanning today urged Congress to act immediately to fund the federal government for the 2025 fiscal year.
"Everyone knows the serious repercussions of long-term continuing resolutions and shutdowns – slowing efforts to modernize everything from our air traffic control system to our nuclear arsenal, hurting our troops’ pay and benefits, and driving up costs throughout the federal government. But once again Congress is mired in protracted debate over how to keep the federal government open past September 30."
Fanning highlighted the broad impacts on the country and specifically on the aerospace and defense industry. He referenced General Brown, calling continuing resolutions "equivalent to taking a knee on advancing our defense capabilities," which damages the Department of Defense’s relationship with its industrial base reliant on stable, predictable funding.
"With the fiscal year ending in just over a week, Congress must find a rational, responsible path forward soon. A short-term continuing resolution is acceptable for now, but it’s no replacement for full-year appropriations bills – now, next year, or ever."
