On September 22, Under Secretary for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment Jose W. Fernandez met with President of the Dominican Republic Luis Abinader to announce that the United States is partnering with the Dominican Republic to co-chair the Economic and Health Dialogue of the Americas (EHA).
Launched by Secretary Blinken at the Ninth Summit of the Americas in June 2022, the EHA coordinates efforts for health system resilience and identifies best practices in the public sector, focusing on intersections of health and economy. This initiative receives technical direction from the Pan American Health Organization, the Inter-American Development Bank, and the Organization of American States.
The United States looks forward to partnering with the Dominican Republic, which has designated Minister Bisono and the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs to co-chair the EHA. The collaboration aims to advance health security, promote economic resilience, and strengthen supply chains in the Western Hemisphere. The Dominican Republic is a leading exporter of medical devices in the region and has one of the highest local production capacities, making it a key player in both global health supply chains and regional self-sufficiency efforts.
