Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken and Guyanese President Irfaan Ali met in New York City on September 23, 2024, to discuss the ongoing partnership between their countries.

"Mr. President, thank you so much for being here today. And thank you even more for the partnership that we’ve had between our countries," Secretary Blinken said. He expressed gratitude for the hospitality he received during his visit to Guyana and highlighted the collaborative efforts in various areas, including Haiti.

"We see this partnership in what we’re doing together... Guyana’s leadership in CARICOM has been critical," Blinken noted. He emphasized the importance of supporting the Multinational Security Support mission for Haiti to address issues related to gangs and violence, aiming to help Haiti achieve a stable democratic path.

Blinken also reaffirmed U.S. support for Guyana's territorial integrity: "We also stand strongly for the territorial integrity in Guyana, and we’ll continue to stand with you on that and on so many other things."

President Ali echoed these sentiments, emphasizing shared values such as the rule of law and democracy. "It’s an honor to be here again to celebrate our strong partnership," he said. Ali reiterated Guyana's commitment to aiding Haiti's return to normalcy through humanitarian efforts and multinational support.

Ali also mentioned the robust bilateral relationship between Guyana and the United States, highlighting expanded trade and cooperation in security matters. "We are committed to the interests of all of us here in the region," he stated, thanking the U.S. for its support on sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The meeting underscored both nations' dedication to strengthening their partnership further.
