FTC highlights efforts to improve competition in upcoming event

ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) continues its efforts to enhance competition as part of the Biden-Harris administration's comprehensive strategy. The FTC's initiatives aim to reduce costs for American families by addressing issues such as junk patent listings that increase prescription drug prices, hidden fees on hotel bookings and concert tickets, pricing transparency, subscription service cancellations, and price-fixing schemes.

Notably, the FTC has targeted anticompetitive practices in the housing sector by filing complaints against companies involved in rental market price-fixing and violations of truth-in-advertising standards.

An event hosted by the Center for American Progress will feature FTC Chair Lina Khan and Sen. Ben Ray Luján (D-NM), focusing on consumer protection and competition preservation.

Emily Gee, Senior Vice President for Inclusive Growth at the Center for American Progress, will deliver introductory remarks. Participants include Lina M. Khan, Chair of the Federal Trade Commission; Sen. Ben Ray Luján (D-NM); and Patrick Gaspard, President and CEO of the Center for American Progress.

The event is scheduled for Wednesday, September 25, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. ET at 1333 H Street NW, Washington D.C., with options to attend both in person and online.

Attendees are requested to RSVP via provided links for either format. Questions can be submitted on Twitter using #CAPEvents or via email at [email protected].
