Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III held two conversations with Israeli Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant regarding the situation in Lebanon, according to Pentagon Press Secretary Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder.
During the calls, Secretary Austin affirmed U.S. support for Israel's right to defend itself and its citizens against Iranian-backed terrorist groups. He emphasized that the United States is committed to preventing Iran and its allies from taking advantage of the current situation or escalating the conflict.
"The United States remains postured to protect U.S. forces and facilities in the region," Austin stated, reaffirming America's commitment to Israel's defense.
