Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken met with Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya on September 30, 2024. According to Spokesperson Matthew Miller, the meeting marked the start of the U.S.-Kuwait Strategic Dialogue, which aims to strengthen bilateral engagement in various fields.
Discussions focused on enhancing security and economic partnerships between the two countries, including cooperation on emerging technology, strategic investments, and food security. Both officials reaffirmed their commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region and deepening their strategic partnership.
They also addressed the need for a ceasefire and hostage release deal in Gaza. Additionally, they emphasized finding a diplomatic resolution to conflicts in northern Israel and southern Lebanon to allow citizens on both sides of the border to return home. Secretary Blinken expressed gratitude for Kuwait’s ongoing role in delivering humanitarian assistance to Gaza and Sudan and discussed ways to ensure more aid reaches those in need.
