The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced a settlement with 3M Co. regarding alleged violations of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) at the company's facility in Cordova, Illinois. The agreement includes a $125,900 civil penalty and mandates corrective actions to enhance worker safety.
According to the EPA, 3M stored hazardous waste on-site for over 90 days without the necessary permit. The company also failed to inspect hazardous waste containers and storage tanks, equip open-ended valves or lines with caps, blind flanges, plugs, or a second valve, and maintain required documentation.
3M Cordova is involved in manufacturing specialty chemicals and adhesives and must adhere to RCRA regulations concerning the management of solid and hazardous waste.
