The United States has expressed its intent to strengthen ties with Gabon as Transition President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema visits to reaffirm the longstanding partnership between the two nations. The visit aims to enhance cooperation in areas such as environmental protection, economic development, and regional security.

"The United States welcomes Transition President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema to reaffirm and deepen the sixty-four years of strong partnership and cooperation between the people of the United States and Gabon," states a spokesperson from the U.S. Department of State.

The collaboration is set to expand through several initiatives, including support for Gabon's democratic transition via the African Democratic and Political Transitions (ADAPT) initiative. This initiative was introduced by President Biden at the 2022 U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit to provide political and technical support for countries undergoing democratic transitions.

Further plans include hosting a Local Democracy Forum in Libreville, promoting business opportunities for African women entrepreneurs at George Washington University, exploring a Sister Cities program, and expanding investment through the Development Finance Corporation.

In terms of trade and investment, "the U.S. Chamber of Commerce launched the U.S.-Gabon Investment Guide," which is intended to boost economic collaboration between both countries.

The U.S. also aims to secure critical mineral supply chains with Gabon by offering technical cooperation. Additionally, USAID plans to place a full-time Country Manager in Libreville by 2025.

Environmental conservation efforts are being bolstered with $2 million allocated for programs protecting Gabon's forest elephants. The renewed $20 million arrangement between the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Gabon's National Agency for National Parks will further promote conservation efforts.

Security partnerships are also being enhanced through potential agreements like providing maritime patrol vessels and supporting radar facilities under the Regional Maritime Awareness Capabilities Program. A Defense Cooperation Agreement is anticipated following ongoing negotiations.

Both nations look forward to continued constructive engagements as they explore these avenues of cooperation aimed at mutual growth and security enhancement.
