Assistant Secretary for Energy Resources Geoffrey R. Pyatt is set to visit Athens, Greece, and Istanbul, Türkiye from October 8-10, 2024. The purpose of the trip is to engage in ministerial and private sector discussions on regional energy transitions and energy security priorities.

In Athens, Assistant Secretary Pyatt will meet with senior Greek officials from the Office of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Energy, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Discussions will focus on advancing U.S.-Greece energy cooperation. He will also engage with leaders from energy companies to explore opportunities in clean energy deployment and improving regional connectivity.

Assistant Secretary Pyatt is scheduled to deliver remarks at an EU-hosted workshop aimed at diversifying natural gas supply in Southeastern and Central Europe. This effort aligns with a shared goal of achieving full decoupling from Russian energy by 2027.

The visit continues in Istanbul from October 9-10. There, Assistant Secretary Pyatt will participate in the Atlantic Council’s Regional Clean and Secure Energy Conference alongside government officials and private sector leaders from Türkiye, Albania, North Macedonia, and Romania. The conference will focus on advancing clean energy development and enhancing leadership in regional energy security. Additionally, efforts to support Ukraine's energy resilience this winter will be discussed.
